The Rehabilitation Act of 1973
The Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (Rehabilitation Act) was among the first Federal laws to forbid discrimination on the basis of disability. Later laws, such as the Americans with Disabilities Act, built upon the foundation laid by this Act.
The Act has been amended a number of times since 1973, and remains in effect today. Various sections of the Rehabilitation Act apply in various circumstances. Section 504 of this Act is the section that is covered in this training. That section bars disability-based discrimination in Federal programs and in programs or activities that receive Federal financial assistance.
This training will focus on Section 504 as it pertains to programs and activities receiving Federal financial assistance from the U.S. Department of Labor.
